HOW CAN WE MAKE WOMEN EMPOWERMENT A REALITY?
We have read manier times in history about many movements being carried out for the empowerment of women . Despite this, there’s a huge movement among women to empower one another, to secure equal rights, to challenge gender narratives, and to establish a brighter future for our daughters.
According to Mahatma Gandhi, “If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate an entire family.” Our predominant patriarchal system doesn't provide enough chances for women to have higher education even if they wish. Girls should be motivated to take up higher education. Universal education for all below 14 years should be strictly implemented. It is important to make changes in the societal attitudes and
perceptions with regard to the role of women in different spheres of life. The education and empowerment of women throughout the world cannot fail to result in a more caring, tolerant, just and peaceful life for all. Women should be allowed to work and should be provided enough safety and support to work. Legislations such as Equal Remuneration Act, Factories Act, etc, Constitutional safeguards such as maternity relief, and other provisions should be strictly followed. Macroeconomic policies would help in this drive. Through economic empowerment women's emancipation could be realized. They should be provided with proper wages and work at par with men so that their status can be elevated in society.
Political empowerment of women is necessary for their emancipation. In recent years many steps have been taken so as to increase the participation of women in the political system. Further, there is the Panchayati Raj System, where women have been given 50% representation as a sign of political empowerment. Apart from these, strict implementation of programs and acts should be there to curb the mal-practices prevalent in the society. Dowry prohibition acts and other legislations pertaining to woman emancipation must be implemented strictly. And lastly women should be free to be who they are and what they want to do..
Women empowerment is about equipping and allowing women to make life-determining decisions through different problems in society. This includes the improvement of their political, social, economic, and health status. The Government had made several acts/reservations towards women empowerment. Now the question arises that how far is women empowerment from the reality? In my opinion, the empowerment laws or acts are only limited upto pages only and not came into reality yet. The government can only constitute laws or acts to empower women but the real empowering women starts with us, with our families. We should show support to women and show them that they do matter. We should encourage them and make them feel special and strong.
Education plays a vital role in empowering women. The Government should do something regarding this so that no girl is left uneducated. We as people can consider making a contribution to an organization that teaches girls in school.
Self-confidence in women is important for women's empowerment. Women should be appreciated and encouraged, but in today's world we see lots of negativity or negative comments towards women on so-called “social media sites”. People make fun of women's appearances or of their body figures. This is not acceptable, women should fight negativity by promoting body positivity Intelligence, and authenticity. We should admire a strong woman, celebrate different types of beauty, empower women with kindness, and encourage women to make their aspirations a reality.
Women Empowerment is about the creation of an environment for women where they can make decisions of their own for their personal benefits as well as for the society. It will directly lead to the overall development of the society. It can also lead to end of many social ill which was practiced for long time like domestic violence etc.
In my opinion i think women empowerment is close to reality in our country as women in India are now participating in various activities such as education, sports, politics, media, science and technology , etc. And not only participating in these field they are also performing well like Indira Gandhi world's longest serving women Prime Minister, M Vanita the project director of chandrayaan mission and many more. Also the govenment has done many things to make women empowerment a reality. The Government of India declared 2001 as the year of Women's Empowerment, in 2010 Rajya Sabha passed women reservation bill ensuring 33% reservation to women in Parliament and state legislative bodies and many schemes to educate women were launched by our government.
But still we are close to women empowerment is just because of lack of awarness in our society and it because of lack of education. So i think educating our society will lead to completion of women empowerment. So if we start supporting the Girls/Women of our family then it will directly impact in achieving Women Empowerment in our country or society.
Intro- Women empowerment can be portrayed as -they should have autonomy & right to self determine to represent & act according to their wishes. There are various principles & acts to safeguard the rights of women in preamble, FRs, FDs and also DPSP.
This can be achieved by improving the status of women in health, education, safety & security(Economic & emotional).
Reason of backwardness of women - Prevalence in patriarchy & men having more control over resources, decision making & ideology by subordinating the women which can be described as below.
- Lower Participation rate of women in social and political reforms.
- Increasing rate of Mental & physical torture towards women in marriage.
- Economically unstable. etc
Let's not get more into the core reasons as to why have we lesser rate of women education, women participation, women empowerment but to discuss the solution . There are few aspects through which we can hope for grassroot level changes in daily life of women.
Social- we should spread awareness against female foeticide, child marriage, marital rapes etc. For that to acheive ,we must educate our generation especially women so that they will get to know their rights .
Political- Though Govt has declared 1/3rd reservation in elections for women, their Husbands and sons are ruling over thir shadow. we have seen that clearly in 'Panchayat movie' where the lady was a sarpanch just in pen & paper. Women should be involved in implementation of law, not just in making the law.
Economical- Women should have control over property & productive resources. They must have access to gainful employment and most importantly they should be made aware of entrepreneurship through SHG and all govt programmes. Household work should be valued and dual responsibility of working women should be shared by their family.
Cultural- Patriarchal ideology should be removed.
We have all those above points in theory and we celebrate Int Women's Day on march 8 but the irony is even this day is celebrated by Men.
Conclusion- Women Empowerment is not beneficial to women only but for the developement and well being of families, communities & nation as well.
