1. Digi Yatra crosses 10 crore passenger journeys

The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that India’s biometric, facial-recognition based air travel platform Digi Yatra has crossed 10 crore (100 million) passenger journeys and recorded more than 2.4 crore downloads across Android and iOS. The platform is currently operational at 38 airports, with 27 more airports scheduled for integration in 2026-27. Digi Yatra enables paperless, contact-less boarding at security check points.

2. Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission crosses 90 crore ABHA accounts

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare confirmed that Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) have crossed the 90 crore mark under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), making it one of the largest digital health ID systems in the world.

3. “Agri – Khet Bachao Abhiyan” launched

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare launched the Agri – Khet Bachao Abhiyan on 1 June 2026, a nationwide awareness campaign to promote balanced fertiliser use, soil health management and sustainable farming and to reduce excessive use of chemical fertilisers.

4. NeSDA 2025 Portal launched by DARPG

The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) launched the National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment (NeSDA) 2025 portal. Modelled on the UN e-Government Survey’s Online Service Index (OSI), it assesses the maturity, accessibility and citizen-centric effectiveness of online government services across States/UTs.

5. NFHS-6 (2023–24) report released

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare released the sixth edition of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) for 2023-24, covering nearly 6.79 lakh households across 715 districts of India.

6. Centre clears five new Supreme Court judges

The Union Government cleared the appointment of five new Supreme Court judges, including senior advocate V. Mohana, taking the working strength to 37 against the revised sanctioned strength of 38 (raised from 34 through a 2026 ordinance).

7. JoSAA 2026 counselling begins

JoSAA counselling for IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs begins on 2 June 2026. A total of 56,880 candidates qualified for the IITs through JEE Advanced 2026 — 46,773 male and 10,107 female candidates.

8. IIP grows 4.9% in April 2026 (new series)

India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) grew 4.9% in April 2026 under the revised series with 2022-23 as the base year. Manufacturing rose 6.2%, while mining contracted 5.1%. The new series broadens coverage by adding water supply, sewerage, waste management and gas supply to the existing sectors.

1. US strikes Iranian radar and drone-control sites

The US military confirmed it struck Iranian radar and drone-control sites, including locations on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, after Iran shot down an American MQ-1 Predator drone over the weekend. The development has heightened concerns over oil flows through the strait.

2. Israel captures historic Beaufort Castle in Lebanon

Israeli forces captured the 12th-century Beaufort Castle overlooking southern Lebanon and northern Israel, suggesting plans for an extended military presence in the area amid ongoing tensions with Hezbollah.

3. Colombia heading for presidential run-off

Tough-on-crime outsider Abelardo de la Espriella took the lead in Colombia’s presidential first round on 1 June, setting up a run-off with Iván Cepeda, an ally of outgoing President Gustavo Petro.

4. Ethiopia holds House of Peoples’ Representatives elections

Ethiopia held elections for its House of Peoples’ Representatives on 1 June 2026, with multiple parties and coalitions contesting amid security challenges in parts of the country.

5. Bundibugyo virus outbreak in DR Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern Ituri province has reported over 1,000 suspected cases of the Bundibugyo virus (a filovirus in the Ebola family), which currently has no approved treatment or vaccine.

1. RBI MPC meeting from June 3 to June 5, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra, will meet from 3 to 5 June 2026. The resolution will be announced on Friday, 5 June 2026, at 10:00 AM IST. Markets widely expect the repo rate to remain unchanged at 5.25% for the third consecutive meeting, with a neutral policy stance. The updated GDP growth projection for FY 2026-27 currently stands at 6.9%.

2. NPCI’s new UPI safety feature

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is rolling out a new safety feature under which UPI apps will display the recipient’s verified bank-registered name whenever users scan a QR code or enter a mobile number, replacing user-customised aliases. The move targets digital payment frauds.

3. Kotak Mahindra Bank caps credit card rewards

Kotak Mahindra Bank revised its credit card reward structure from June 2026, introducing caps on reward points for utility bills, fuel, insurance and rent payments. Certain transactions may attract a 1% fee beyond specified spending thresholds.

4. India-US trade deal: first tranche near

The Union Government stated that the first tranche of the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement is set to be signed soon, with “all major points settled.” The deal aims to expand bilateral merchandise trade to USD 500 billion by 2030.

1. IMF flags emergency financing demand of up to USD 50 billion

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said near-term demand for IMF emergency financing could reach USD 50 billion amid global debt and balance-of-payment pressures. World Bank President Ajay Banga indicated USD 20-25 billion in rapid financing support from the Bank.

2. IMF and World Bank resume formal ties with Venezuela

The IMF and the World Bank announced resumption of formal relations with Venezuela after a halt since 2019, opening the door to potential technical assistance and surveillance engagement.

3. World Bank: Sub-Saharan Africa growth firms to 4.3%

According to the World Bank’s latest Global Economic Prospects, growth in Sub-Saharan Africa is projected to firm to 4.3% in 2026 and 4.5% in 2027, supported by stronger investment, exports and easing inflation.

The Government appointed Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India.

3. R. Mukundan – CII President (2026-27)
