Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, on his visit to Odisha on 9 July 2026, launched the Letter of Authorisation for Sustainable Harnessing of Fisheries in the High Seas and released the Odisha Deep Sea Fishing Mission document, a push to expand India’s blue-economy footprint and deep-sea fishing capability.

India–UAE Sign Enhanced Trade Partnership Agreement

India and the UAE signed a comprehensive Enhanced Trade Partnership Agreement on the sidelines of the India–UAE Business Summit in Abu Dhabi on 7 July 2026, targeting bilateral trade of $200 billion by 2030, up from the current $85 billion.

PM-PRANAM Scheme Launched with ₹2.11 Lakh Crore Outlay

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PM-PRANAM) at a national agriculture conclave in New Delhi on 8 July 2026, with an outlay of ₹2.11 lakh crore to promote balanced fertiliser use and sustainable farming.

PM-SETU Scheme for ITI Upgradation Approved

The Union Government approved the nationwide rollout of Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) on 7 July 2026, to modernise Industrial Training Institutes and align skilling with industry demand.

Coast Guard Conducts Exercise ‘Sagar Raksha-IV’

The Indian Coast Guard conducted ‘Sagar Raksha-IV’, a large-scale multi-agency maritime security exercise in the Northern Arabian Sea on 7–8 July 2026, involving the Indian Navy, Customs, CISF, Fisheries Department and State Marine Police of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change notified the Natural History Museum of Mizoram University as India’s 21st Designated Repository under Section 39 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.

ABDM Crosses 104 Crore Linked Health Records

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission crossed 104 crore linked health records and 93 crore ABHA accounts, with Aarogya Setu 2.0 rolled out as the unified citizen-facing digital health gateway.

NATO Summit Held in Ankara; Defence Spending Tops Agenda

Heads of state of NATO’s 32 members met at the Ankara Summit (Türkiye) on 7–8 July 2026. Secretary General Mark Rutte set three priorities: higher allied defence investment, stronger transatlantic defence-industrial production, and continued support to Ukraine. NATO also unveiled a ~$4.5 billion plan to buy up to 10 Saab GlobalEye surveillance aircraft to replace ageing AWACS.

UK–Netherlands £2.4 Billion Maritime Partnership

Britain and the Netherlands signed a £2.4 billion ($3.2 billion) maritime partnership under which their forces will get new amphibious transport ships, deepening European defence-industrial cooperation.

US–Iran Ceasefire Collapses; Oil Prices Surge

US President Donald Trump declared at the NATO Summit that the ceasefire with Iran is ‘over’, after three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz came under attack. The US began fresh strikes against Iran, sending crude oil prices sharply higher.

US, Japan, South Korea Sign SMR Cooperation Pact

Foreign ministers of the US, Japan and South Korea signed an agreement on the sidelines of the NATO Summit to cooperate on deploying Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in third countries.

ECB Rates at 2.25% After First Hike Since 2023

The European Central Bank’s 25-basis-point hike — its first since 2023 — keeps the deposit facility rate at 2.25% (main refinancing 2.40%, marginal lending 2.65%), as Middle East war pressures push euro-area inflation to a projected 3.0% for 2026.

Fed Chair Warsh: US Inflation Still ‘Too High’
