• INS Mahendragiri, the sixth and final Project 17A Nilgiri-class stealth frigate, was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam; built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, it takes the Navy’s frigate fleet to 20 with over 75% indigenous content.
• NABARD facilitated Geographical Indication (GI) registration for 28 new traditional products – including the Nalanda Bawanbuti Saree (Bihar), Bihu Pepa (Assam) and Khajuraho Metal Craft (Madhya Pradesh) – taking the total GI products supported by NABARD to 176.

• UN Women reported that around 1 million women lost access to humanitarian aid in 2026 due to record global funding cuts, underlining pressure on SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

• The Rs 11,700-crore IPO of SBI Funds Management (SBI Mutual Fund) opened on 14 July 2026; SBI had earlier sold a 1.42% stake in the AMC for Rs 1,655 crore at Rs 574 per share via pre-IPO placement.
• RBI’s Financial Stability Report (June 2026): scheduled commercial banks ended FY 2025-26 with CRAR at 17.7% and CET1 at 15.3% – multi-decadal highs – while gross NPAs fell to their lowest in decades.
• Profit after tax of scheduled commercial banks rose to Rs 4,05,268 crore in FY 2025-26 from Rs 3,78,163 crore a year earlier, per the RBI FSR.
• The RBI’s MPC has pegged FY 2026-27 GDP growth at 6.6% with CPI inflation projected at 5.1%, after growth of 7.7% in 2025-26.

• The RBI FSR flagged elevated global financial-stability risks from bond-market fragilities, stretched asset valuations and the expanding footprint of leveraged non-bank financial intermediaries.
• The FSR also cautioned that sharply rising debt financing by AI-focused hyperscalers (Microsoft, Meta, Google, Nvidia) could trigger wider market ructions if AI-linked valuations correct.
• India’s first 100% foreign-owned defence manufacturing unit was established under the liberalised FDI policy permitting 100% FDI in defence via the automatic route.

International Sports Events

• FIFA World Cup 2026 entered the semi-final stage: Spain face France and Argentina meet England for places in the final in North America.
• Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

• Skyroot Aerospace opened the launch window (12 July-4 August) for Mission Aagaman, the maiden flight of its Vikram-1 rocket from Sriharikota – success would make it India’s first private orbital launch vehicle.
