1. J.P. Nadda launches ‘10 Years of PMSMA – A Decade of Care’ celebrations; Rs 75 commemorative coin released
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash (J.P.) Nadda launched nationwide celebrations marking ten years of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) at an event in New Delhi, releasing a Rs 75 commemorative coin and a Rs 5 postal stamp. Exam point: PMSMA was launched on 9 June 2016 and provides free, quality antenatal check-ups to pregnant women on the 9th day of every month.
2. 96 companies now approved under Textile PLI Scheme; Rs 12,822 crore investment expected
The Ministry of Textiles approved 22 new applicants under Round-3 of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles, taking the total to 96 selected companies with committed investment of Rs 12,822.67 crore and projected turnover of about Rs 58,294 crore. The scheme focuses on man-made fibre (MMF) apparel, MMF fabrics and technical textiles, supporting Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
3. Cabinet approves Rs 2,533 crore Central Government office complexes at Amaravati
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved construction of Central Government office and residential complexes at Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, at a combined cost of Rs 2,533 crore (offices Rs 1,299 crore; housing about Rs 1,235 crore). The campuses, to be built by CPWD under the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, will accommodate around 8,000 central government officials.
4. MoD signs Rs 449 crore contract for 20 ECGNSS jammers for the Indian Navy
The Ministry of Defence signed a Rs 449 crore contract with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Pvt Ltd (ASSPL) for 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category with 75% indigenous content. The jammers protect warships from satellite-based tracking through spoofing and deceptive jamming.
5. BSNL and IIT Kanpur sign MoU on next-generation telecom technologies
BSNL and IIT Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop future telecom technologies, focusing on Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) broadcasting, indigenous 4G development and advanced spectrum research to strengthen India’s digital self-reliance.
6. World Day Against Child Labour observed on 12 June
The World Day Against Child Labour, launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2002, is observed today. The 2026 theme is “Red card to child labour: Fair play for children, decent work for adults” – a nod to the ongoing FIFA World Cup. It supports ILO Conventions No. 138 and No. 182 on child labour.
International News
1. UNHCR: global forced displacement falls for the first time since 2016
The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) reported that 117.8 million people were forcibly displaced by conflict, violence or persecution at the end of 2025 – a 3% drop from 2024 and the first year-on-year decline since 2016, helped by large returns to Syria even as new displacement continued in Sudan and elsewhere.
2. Gaza talks in Egypt end inconclusively over disarmament question
Negotiations in Egypt involving Palestinian political factions ended inconclusively: the groups agreed on 14 of 15 demands presented under the US-backed peace framework but failed to reach consensus on the question of Hamas’s disarmament, leaving the next phase of the Gaza plan unresolved.
3. International Day of Play observed on 11 June
The third International Day of Play was observed on 11 June with the 2026 theme “Protect Play, Protect Childhood”. Exam point: the day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2024 and is facilitated jointly by UNICEF and UNESCO.

1. RBI eases bank lending norms for REITs and InvITs
The Reserve Bank of India issued Amendment Directions governing bank lending to Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs). Banks may lend only to SEBI-registered, stock-exchange-listed trusts in which at least 80% of assets are operational, revenue-generating projects or properties with positive cash flows for more than one year.
2. Credit Guarantee Scheme for Microfinance Institutions (CGSMFI-2.0) extended to 31 August 2026
The Ministry of Finance extended the validity of CGSMFI-2.0 until 31 August 2026 or until guarantees worth Rs 20,000 crore are issued. The maximum loan limit for large NBFC-MFIs was raised from Rs 300 crore to Rs 1,000 crore, subject to 20% of their Assets Under Management. Guarantee cover is 80% (small), 75% (medium) and 70% (large) of the amount in default.
3. Nuvama Wealth Management receives SEBI approval for mutual fund business
Nuvama Wealth Management received final SEBI approval to start mutual fund operations through Nuvama Asset Management Ltd. The company will first launch products under the Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) framework before broader MF schemes.
4. CCI clears Sanlam arm’s additional 2.80% stake in Shriram Life Insurance; ADIA trust to trim Lenskart stake
The Competition Commission of India approved Sanlam Emerging Markets (Mauritius) Ltd’s acquisition of an additional 2.80% stake in Shriram Life Insurance through a preferential issue of about Rs 220.88 crore. Separately, an Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA)-backed trust announced a block deal to sell a 2.3% stake in Lenskart Solutions for about Rs 1,944 crore, with IIFL Capital as sole placement agent.

1. World Bank: global growth to slow to 2.5% in 2026 as energy prices spike
In its Global Economic Prospects (June 2026) update, the World Bank projected global growth slowing to about 2.5% in 2026 as the Middle East conflict drives sharp energy price increases. Emerging market and developing economies face their weakest per-capita income growth since the pandemic, with risks tilted to the downside.
2. ECB report: euro’s share of global reserves steady near 20%
The European Central Bank’s annual report “The International Role of the Euro” (June 2026) found the euro’s share of global official foreign-exchange reserves broadly stable at around 20%, while the US dollar retained about 57% – both little changed despite heightened geopolitical tensions.
3. CCI also clears ANTA Sports vehicle’s EUR 1.5 billion purchase of 29.06% in PUMA SE
The CCI approved the acquisition of a 29.06% shareholding in German sportswear maker PUMA SE by Ancat Holding GmbH, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of China’s ANTA Sports, through a secondary share purchase valued at approximately EUR 1.5 billion – a deal reshaping the global sportswear market.

1. FIFA World Cup 2026 opens: Mexico beat South Africa 2-0 at the Estadio Azteca
The FIFA World Cup 2026 kicked off on 11 June with hosts Mexico defeating South Africa 2-0 at the Estadio Azteca, Mexico City. Julián Quiñones (9′) and Raúl Jiménez (67′) scored, in a match that saw a record three red cards – the most ever in a World Cup opening game. Shakira performed the official song “Dai Dai” at the opening ceremony. Exam point: this is the first 48-team, 104-match World Cup, co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico; the final is on 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.

1. R. Mukundan takes over as CII President for 2026-27
R. Mukundan, Managing Director & CEO of Tata Chemicals, has taken charge as President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2026-27, succeeding Rajiv Memani.
2. Saurabh Vijay takes charge as CEO of UIDAI
Senior IAS officer Saurabh Vijay has assumed charge as Chief Executive Officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the body that administers Aadhaar under the Ministry of Electronics & IT.
3. Suzlon appoints Ashok Ramachandran as President of its India business
Renewable energy major Suzlon Group appointed Ashok Ramachandran as President of its India business, strengthening leadership as the company expands its wind-energy portfolio.

1. SML Mahindra CEO Venkataraman Srinivas to step down on 30 June 2026
Commercial vehicle maker SML Mahindra announced that CEO Venkataraman Srinivas will step down at the close of 30 June 2026. Executive Chairman Vinod Kumar Sahay will assume additional charge from 1 July 2026 until a new CEO is appointed.

1. NASA names Artemis III crew, including ESA’s Luca Parmitano
NASA announced the four-member Artemis III crew: US astronauts Randy Bresnik (Commander), Andre Douglas and Frank Rubio, with Italy’s Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency. The late-2027 low-Earth-orbit mission will test dockings between SpaceX’s Starship, Blue Origin’s Blue Moon lander and NASA’s Orion capsule ahead of future crewed lunar landings. Exam point: Frank Rubio holds the US single-flight space endurance record of 371 days.
2. Indian-origin scientist Gautam Dey wins EMBO Gold Medal 2026
Gautam Dey, an Indian-origin scientist at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Heidelberg, won the EMBO Gold Medal 2026 for research on the evolutionary origins of nuclear organisation and cell division. He shares the award – among Europe’s top life-science honours, carrying a EUR 10,000 bursary – with Omaya Dudin of the University of Geneva.
3. ISRO’s GISAT-2 geo-imaging satellite slated for launch this month
ISRO’s GISAT-2 (GISAT-1A), a geo-imaging satellite designed to provide near-real-time images of the subcontinent for disaster monitoring and rapid response, is scheduled for launch in June 2026, ahead of the Gaganyaan uncrewed test flights planned later this year.
