1. MSDE launches ‘Navachar Mantra’ to empower grassroots innovators
Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary launched Navachar Mantra at IIT Delhi on 3 June 2026, a national entrepreneurship initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Implemented by NIESBUD with the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), it supports early-stage entrepreneurs and grassroots innovators from Tier-2/Tier-3 cities, rural areas and aspirational districts through mentorship, investor access, IP guidance and market linkages in sectors such as Agritech, HealthTech, EdTech and MSMEs. Applications are open until 5 July 2026.
2. Chumur becomes India’s first Model Border Village
India launched its first Model Border Village at Chumur, a remote settlement in eastern Ladakh near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), at an altitude of 16,700 feet. Selected under the Vibrant Village Programme, the foundation stone was laid by Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on 3 June 2026. The project focuses on climate-resilient housing, livelihood generation, tourism and economic self-reliance, and is intended as a model for sustainable development in high-altitude frontier areas.
3. India issues request for 114 Rafale fighter jets to France
The Government of India issued a formal request letter to France for 114 Rafale fighter jets, with the majority to be manufactured in India under the ‘Make in India’ framework – a major step in modernising the Indian Air Force’s combat fleet.
4. India records highest-ever seafood exports in FY 2025–26
India exported 19,72,018 metric tonnes of seafood valued at USD 8.46 billion (₹73,890.46 crore) during FY 2025–26 – its highest-ever marine product export in both quantity and value. Frozen shrimp remained the principal export item, underscoring the sector’s growing contribution to India’s agri-export basket.

1. West Asia conflict keeps global markets on edge
Tensions persisted across West Asia as a fragile Israel–Iran ceasefire came under strain, with fresh Israeli air strikes reported in Gaza and continued diplomatic friction involving Lebanon and Hezbollah. Rising crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty remained a key concern for emerging-market economies, including India.
2. Five Eyes warn of China’s online recruitment of security professionals
The Five Eyes intelligence alliance (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) issued a joint warning that Chinese operatives are using LinkedIn and job platforms, posing as private consultancy employees, to extract sensitive information from security professionals worldwide.
3. South Korea holds local elections
In South Korea’s local elections, the ruling Democratic Party won a majority of races but lost the high-profile Seoul mayoral contest to the conservative People Power Party, signalling a divided electorate ahead of national political contests.

1. RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 5.25%
The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra, kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.25% on 5 June 2026 – the third consecutive pause – while retaining a ‘neutral’ policy stance. The MPC flagged upside inflation risks from global supply-chain disruptions, high crude oil prices, uncertain monsoon patterns and potential El Niño effects on food prices. 2. NPCI and ACLEDA Bank bring UPI to Cambodia
NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) partnered with ACLEDA Bank Plc. to launch India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Cambodia. Under Phase 1, Indian travellers can make QR-code payments at over 4.5 million merchants via Cambodia’s KHQR/Bakong network. Cambodia becomes the 9th country to accept UPI, joining Singapore, UAE, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar and Sri Lanka.
3. NPCI rolls out UPI safety upgrades
To curb fraud, NPCI is introducing a feature that displays the recipient’s verified bank-registered name when users scan a QR code or enter a mobile number, replacing custom aliases. The UPI Circle delegated-payments framework, which lets a primary account holder authorise trusted family members to transact, also continued to expand.
4. India ranked world’s 5th most digitalised economy
The State of India’s Digital Economy (SIDE) 2026 Report by ICRIER and the Prosus Centre ranked India the 5th most digitalised economy among 71 countries (up from 8th in 2025) using the CHIPS framework. India also secured 4th globally in AI readiness, behind the US, China and Singapore.

1. India–Cambodia cross-border payments corridor goes live
The India–Cambodia UPI–KHQR cross-border corridor became operational, linking UPI with Cambodia’s Bakong system. Phase 2 will allow Cambodian users to pay in India, creating a two-way digital-payment corridor – part of India’s wider push to internationalise UPI and the rupee in cross-border trade and tourism.
2. Global crude prices pressure emerging-market currencies
Amid the West Asia crisis, global crude oil prices climbed, raising import bills and exerting pressure on the rupee and other emerging-market currencies. Central banks worldwide, including the RBI, cited geopolitical risk and imported inflation as the dominant near-term challenge for monetary policy.

2. Lionel Messi wins 2026 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports
Lionel Messi was awarded the 2026 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, becoming the first individual footballer to receive the prestigious Spanish honour, recognised for his sporting achievements and humanitarian work.
3. David Beckham to receive Hollywood Walk of Fame star

1. Khalilur Rahman elected President of 81st UN General Assembly
Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh was elected President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, defeating Andreas Kakouris of Cyprus by 99 votes to 91. He will assume office on 8 September 2026 for a one-year term. The session’s theme is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
2. Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty takes over Andaman & Nicobar Command
Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty assumed charge as the 20th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN) at Sri Vijaya Puram on 1 June 2026. A Gunnery and Missiles specialist with over 36 years of service, he has commanded INS Ajay, INS Khanjar and INS Shivalik.

1. Siddaramaiah steps down; D.K. Shivakumar becomes Karnataka CM
Under the Congress party’s rotational leadership arrangement, Siddaramaiah demitted office and D.K. Shivakumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka on 3 June 2026, with G. Parameshwara as Deputy CM. The oath was administered by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at Lok Bhavan, with 13 other ministers inducted into the first cabinet.
2. US designates Cuban President and military entities

1. Hero MotoCorp launches India’s first flex-fuel motorcycles
Hero MotoCorp launched India’s first production-ready flex-fuel motorcycles – the Hero Splendor Plus Flex Fuel and Hero HF Deluxe Flex Fuel – unveiled by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The bikes run on ethanol blends from E20 to E85, helping cut crude imports and carbon emissions, and are powered by a 97.2cc engine.
2. Microsoft unveils Fairwater AI Data Centre
Microsoft unveiled the Fairwater AI Data Centre in Mount Pleasant – a $7.3 billion, 315-acre facility showcasing sustainable AI infrastructure. 3. NASA officially concludes the MAVEN Mars mission
